COVID-19 Action and Response Plan
Following the first case in Uganda, on the March 22, 2020, and the subsequent rise in conformed cases, stricter measures have been taken by the government of Uganda. Caritas Kampala, shares the guidelines given and updates with the citizens in the Archdiocese of Kampala. We are proposing to make some interventions towards curbing the spread of COVID-19:
-
Our structures are church structures and schools basically, we made sure information reaches all people on closure of schools and churches.
-
Because most of our interactions are with farmers in meetings, once meetings for more than 10 people were banned we adhered to it and canceled all planned meetings during the period of the prohibition.
-
We encouraged farmers and staff not to shake hands.
-
We have encouraged our farmers to try and eat healthy to boost their immunity.
-
We encourage social distancing
-
We are creating awareness of the scarcity of things so that people use what they have sparingly
-
We have encouraged staff to stay home if not feeling well or with cough and flue.
-
We have shared the Uganda episcopal guidelines given during this period.
-
We have shared the government statutory instruments issued on the 24th of March 2020 on the control of COVID 19.
-
On the 23rd the archdiocese declared a quarantine of all diocesan offices until the 21st of April. Following the presidential update there is a lock-down until the May 5, 2020. People need to be aided with food and other items as deemed necessary.
What we propose to make a contribution during this period:
-
Is to map the important stake holders the community needs to know like the service providers of food in case of a lock down.
-
We need do find the contacts of different district health officer and subcounty health officers and be able to share them on IEC materials in the different communities.
-
If it were possible to avail soap and water tanks to some needy communities so that people can sanitize more often.
-
Purchasing of protective gear to be shared with those who are more vulnerable in health units and staff if they need to interface with people.
-
We need to popularize the myths about this disease which are not true through IEC materials.
-
If possible buy some food items for the most vulnerable. As many people have not been prepared for this and don’t save they live from hand to mouth.
-
Create more awareness of the new government measures as they are pronounce and put them in pictorial form on IEC material.
-
To advocate for test kits materials in our health units.
-
Sensitization of diocesan health workers
-
Have radio talk shows for massive sensitization.
